British Airways IT failures create chaos for passengers

System Failure: Thousands Stranded as BA Cancels Flights

BA has cancelled more than 80 short-haul flights from Heathrow and a further 10 from Gatwick so far today, so it might not be an exaggeration to say that hundreds of flights may end up in the bin today.

Stephen Gibbons posted a photo of the cabin of a grounded jet meant to be flying from Scotland to London today and said: "Been stuck on the ground in Glasgow for an hour now. We don't know why oxygen masks didn't deploy", she said, revealing that the smoke was thick and smelled of chemicals.

A statement from British Airways said the plane "experienced a technical issue". A spokesman confirmed to CNN that three customers were taken to hospital following the incident "as a precaution", and have since been discharged. "Passenger oxygen masks are for use during decompression events".

Brown later spoke to CNN about the harrowing experience, recalling the emergency evacuation and how the oxygen masks did not release.

The pilots have not yet announced strike dates, but the airline's lawyers have said it was likely to begin on or around August 7.

Tens of thousands of customers were affected when the airline suffered a total systems outage lasting several days in 2017.

Sterling then drove through on Alisson but staggered on the ball with Walker begging for a pass, allowing the goalkeeper steal it. The performance was much more important today than a win.

British Airways faces separate strike action from pilots.

"We are working to support the BA team and passengers impacted".

"The safety of our customers and crew is always our highest priority".

According to a Heathrow spokesperson, British Airways had a "technical issue with its systems" which affects the check-in and departures there.

Balpa general secretary Brian Strutton said: 'The pilots and crew appear to have done an excellent and highly professional job of getting this aircraft safely on to the ground in very hard circumstances, and safely evacuating all the passengers with no reported serious injuries.

"In this case, the pilots and crew appear to have done an excellent and highly professional job of getting this aircraft safely onto the ground in very hard circumstances, and safely evacuating all the passengers with no reported serious injuries", he said.
