Suspected Dayton shooter's family is 'shocked and devastated by' the shooting

While Whaley did say Trump's general rhetoric was "divisive" and "not what people needed", Brown and Whaley said they only briefly met Trump after he landed in OH, and did not accompany him to the hospital or contradict his version of what happened there.

The FBI announced Tuesday it's opened an investigation into Betts' desire to commit a mass shooting and his interest in violent ideology.

The Dayton Daily News, citing the recollections of former classmates, reported Betts had been suspended from high school, and detained by police, over the hit list.

Trump himself said Monday he might call for more stringent background checks if such a measure could be paired with immigration reform, although he did not offer specifics. She is urging people to donate to a recovery fund, lobby their legislators for gun control measures and spend money in the OR district.

Jeremy Ganger (GAYN'-jur) vividly remembers the gunman's "dead stare" as he advanced toward Ned Peppers early Sunday.

Trump's visit came days after a 24-year-old gunman opened fire early Sunday in the city's popular OR entertainment district, killing nine and injuring 37 before police patrolling the area fatally shot him within 30 seconds of the melee.

In addition to the nine people killed, including Betts' sister, more than two dozen others were injured in the attack, which came 13 hours after a shooting spree that claimed 22 lives in El Paso, Texas.

At Some Point US Had to Take on China
China's Shanghai Composite Index opened down 1.58% when trading began on Tuesday, while the Shenzhen index opened down 2.00%. Capital Economics now expects the yuan to end the year at 7.30 per U.S. dollar, compared with previous forecasts of 6.90.

Authorities have said that hundreds more likely would've died had Betts entered the packed establishment.

Adelia Johnson, 24, said she was in treatment but that Betts "didn't want to seek help because of the stigma". "We understand how sad that is", he said. That chant began as the state's Republican governor spoke at a Sunday evening vigil.

DeWine, who took office in January, previously expressed support for red flag laws after a deadly shooting at a California synagogue in April. "I talked a bit to the chief of staff, who was there, about red flag laws and how there's certain legislation that Lindsey Graham and Blumenthal are moving to make sure that we can have a national red flag law".

Whaley, too, was only positive about the hospital visit in the press conference, saying, "I think the victims and the first responders were grateful that the President of the United States came to Dayton".

Asked at the press conference how Trump was received, Brown said, "He was received well by the patients, as you'd expect".
