Rashida Tlaib, fiery United States lawmaker at center of Israel uproar

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri leads a Shas faction meeting at the Knesset

Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib says she won't visit her relatives in the West Bank after Israel issued a permit on humanitarian grounds, citing "oppressive conditions meant to humiliate me". The U.S. -born Tlaib's family immigrated from the West Bank.

Tlaib's office could not immediately be reached for comment.

Caught between the opposing views of President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reversed himself on Thursday and made a decision to prohibit Reps.

"The decision to bar entry from the congresswomen was just and correct, because it emerged clearly from their planned itinerary that the objective of the visit, as it was planned for them, was to continue to support and promote the boycott of Israel", Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, said in a statement obtained by the Times of Israel.

"In my attempt to visit Palestine, I've experienced the same racist treatment that many Palestinian-Americans endure when encountering the Israeli government", her statement reads.

Omar responded to the decision Thursday slamming it as "an insult to democratic values".

Influential US pro-Israel lobby AIPAC said it disagreed with the views of the congresswomen, but opposed the decision to bar them.

- After being denied entry into Israel ahead of an upcoming visit Thursday morning, Rep. Ilhan Omar released a statement calling her barring an "affront" and accusing the nation of implementing a "Muslim ban" similar to President Donald Trump's.

"They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds", Trump tweeted.

He said the congresswomen are "a disgrace".

Fellow Democrats were not happy about Israel's Thursday decision.

China’s Digital Currency will Soon See The Light of The Day
When asked if the United States would devalue the USA dollar in response to China's action, Trump said, "No, we don't have to". The president also accused China of manipulating its currency and said USA tariffs on China have been "amazing".

No official meetings were scheduled for the US lawmakers, but they were planning to travel to the Palestinian cities of Bethlehem, Hebron and Ramallah and spend time in Jerusalem. Omar and Tlaib's support for the anti-Israel and anti-peace BDS movement.

The two USA lawmakers have yet to comment on the decision. Ilhan Omar due to their support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, or BDS, movement, a global nonviolent effort to pressure Israel over its actions against the Palestinians.

And if Israel doesn't want members of the United States Congress to visit their country to get a first-hand look... maybe they can respectfully decline the billions of dollars we give to Israel.

Deri's office responded to the letter by allowing Tlaib to visit on the condition she not use the trip to promote a boycott of Israel.

Supporters of the boycott movement say it is a non-violent way to protest Israeli policies and call for Palestinian rights.

"It would be unfair to expect Israel to treat them differently than anyone else applying to visit the country", said Strauss. They had planned to tour East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, territories Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war, which Palestinians want for a state. The Palestinians seek these territories for their future state.

Trump's latest move brought a longtime USA ally into a domestic dispute, essentially relying on Israel to retaliate against Tlaib and Omar after they had criticized him.

Tlaib is from MI and Omar from Minnesota - both are outspoken critics of the USA president, who has a close relationship with Netanyahu.

In July, the Democratic-led House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution against the BDS movement. Tlaib was born in the United States, and Omar was born in Somalia and is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Former Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat, who is a member of Netanyahu's Likud Party, said he would welcome the two congresswomen into the country, but only if they would "listen and learn". Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.)-collectively known as the "Squad"-drew the ire of Trump last month, when he said the women should apologize for criticizing America".

"There's no reason to prevent members of Congress, including critical ones, from coming, seeing and learning, offering them every possible briefing", Shapiro said. They're not going to allow people to come to Israel and agitate for its destruction, even if they manage to win an election in a congressional district.
