Former Chicago Bear Cedric Benson Has Died at 36

Other football players that posted tribute to Benson on social media included former Baylor Bears Heisman winning quarterback Robert Griffin III, running back and Bears teammate Thomas Jones, and Longhorns basketball player Andrew Jones.

Benson's family and friends confirmed his death to the Austin American Statesman on Sunday. He was named the Doak Walker award victor and a consensus All-American as a senior.

In an emotional Facebook post, Benson's brother shared the news and wrote, "No no no no no no God no!"

He played one more year, with the Green Bay Packers, in 2012 and then retired. "I will miss him very much".

He will be forever remembered as a great player at the University of Texas, one of the best to play high school football in this state.

Unfortunately, personal issues and legal troubles caused the Bears to release him after just three seasons.
