Trump says he doesn't want to do business with Huawei

Huawei Technologies is still prohibited from buying American parts and components to manufacture new products without additional licence approvals

US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are expected to discuss Huawei in a call this weekend, one of the sources said.

The US Commerce Department blacklisted Huawei and about 70 of its affiliates from purchasing American technology and doing business with US companies in May amid a severe trade war between Washington and Beijing. The administration later clarified it intends to issue trade licenses to American companies on an individual basis provided "there is no threat to US national security", though what that means exactly has yet to be established.

Ross said "As we continue to urge consumers to transition away from Huawei's products, we recognize that more time is necessary to prevent any disruption". Ross said that there were no "specific licenses being granted for anything" on Monday.

The extension was announced a day after President Donald Trump said the US shouldn't be doing business with Huawei.

Without a reprieve extension, several of the major U.S. tech giants doing business with Huawei would not be able to supply parts to the Chinese smartphone vendor.

On Monday, the fact that Commerce was again delaying a ban on Huawei buying U.S. goods was tucked behind a claim that it was adding "dozens of new Huawei affiliates to the Entity List". Larry Kudlow, National Economic Advisor, said the US Commerce Department has agreed to extend Huawei's stay by another three months to continue working with US companies in the interest of US firms because the Chinese company is a big customer. The extension will last 90 days, and is a repeat of the previous 90-day extension, granted back in May.

Triolo said the one thing is sure in all the confusion generated by the White House: "Huawei is doubling down on finding alternative suppliers, and US companies going forward will be viewed as unreliable partners by greater numbers of Chinese firms". "I don't want to do business at all because it is a national security threat and I really believe that the media has covered it a little bit differently than that". That exemption would have expired Monday, but the Commerce Department extended it for another 90 days, as expected.

If Huawei will get a further 90 days to continue working with its United States suppliers.
