'Amazing' Osaka thrashes tearful Gauff at US Open as Nadal coasts

Coco Gauff. of the United States celebrates after defeating Timea Babos of Hungary during the second round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York Thursday Aug. 29 2019

Gauff, the 15-year-old who became a household name for her exploits at Wimbledon earlier this year, was making her first appearance on court in the imposing Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Gauff, in only her sixth Grand Slam match, then fired back-to-back aces to finally get on the board and from there the two exchanged breaks over the next four games before Osaka recovered from 0-30 to serve out the set.

The 27-year-old American of Korean descent fired a final ace to defeat Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 7-5, the 2017 French Open victor making 45 unforced errors to join 2004 US Open victor Svetlana Kuznetsova on Ahn's victims list.

Despite her impressive run, Coco Gauff was simply no match for Naomi Osaka.

Three-time U.S. Open champion Rafael Nadal reached the third round when his opponent, Thanasi Kokkinakis, withdrew with an injured right shoulder.

The final game was a love hold for Osaka, who faces world No. 12 Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in the fourth round.

It is a sign of the times that the much-hyped first round match between old antagonists Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova was a damp squib, the 23-times Grand Slam champion wiping the court with her Russian adversary more effectively than those tasked with dredging the courts after a deluge at Flushing Meadows a day later.

Osaka, 21, was holding back tears herself when she then spoke directly to Gauff's box, before apologising for playing so well.

Townsend, ranked 116th, followed up her shock win over reigning Wimbledon champion Simona Halep by beating another Romanian, Sorana Cirstea, 7-5, 6-2. We're both pretty young. In the second set in particular, she seemed to have few answers against Osaka and couldn't keep up at times. "I obviously thought at one point 'How did I win?' I don't know how I did".

PBOC reportedly to issue its own cryptocurrency as early as November
Mu also revealed that the DC/EP was capable of handling 300,000 transactions per second. The second layer will connect those commercial banks with the greater retail market.

"After the match, I think she just proved that she's a true athlete".

"I think it's super exciting tennis".

"I'm happy to be in the fourth round for one more time".

She most definitely did, producing the match's initial seven winners before Gauff got her first.

A night after Daniil Medvedev's visible obscenity directed toward the crowd in his eventful match, and an hour or so before Nick Kyrgios would use obscenities in his latest argument with an umpire, Osaka and Gauff showed us there was still very much a place for sportsmanship in tennis, and beyond. "I mean, juniors, I played doubles a lot of the times, nearly every tournament if I can get into doubles, I'm playing it", said Gauff. I think anyone at 15 playing like that, people are going to be drawn to them. That includes her breakthrough in NY a year ago, when she outplayed Williams in a memorably chaotic final that ended with spectators booing and both women in tears after the 23-time major champion got into a lengthy dispute with the chair umpire.

Gauff went on to say: "I'm going to learn a lot from this match".

"I kind of know what to expect".

"She encouraged me to do it", Gauff said through tears to ESPN. She fired her coach soon after her victory in Melbourne, and then lost in the third round at the French Open.

"It was unbelievable", she said of the experience.
