State warns of vaping dangers

Two are hospitalized with vaping-related lung injuries in Stanislaus County | Modesto Bee

The death of a second person was reported in IL in late August.

Experts are investigating a mysterious lung disease linked to use of e-cigarettes which has affected more than 200 people around the country.

No cause for the mystery illness has so far been identified - and the link to THC products is not yet clear.

Last month, Matt Zohfeld said his 17-year-old son Tryston was recovering after being in a coma for 10 days from a vaping-related lung injury.

Cases of serious lung illness potentially caused by vaping - primarily in teens - have been cropping up around the nation.

A new report claims that FDA officials recently disclosed the discovery of a vaping ingredient that may be responsible for numerous vaping lung disease cases reported around the country.

HHS Secretary Alex Azar in a statement said, "HHS and the Trump administration are using every tool we have to get to the bottom of this deeply concerning outbreak of illnesses in Americans who use e-cigarettes".

"We haven't been able to analyze e-liquid from these people, so we don't know what's in them", Professor Robert Tarran, who studies vaping at the University of North Carolina Marisco Lung Institute, told Insider. "They did a chest X-RAY and CT scan, and they found he has double pneumonia". Experts told the Post it can be risky when inhaled, leading to the cough, shortness of breath and chest pain those sickened after vaping have reported. "But what we do know is there is a very severe illness that is being linked to e-cigarette use". The agency also says that while not one product appears to be involved, "THC and cannabinoids use has been reported in many cases".

They also acknowledged preliminary findings released Thursday by NY officials that vitamin E acetate could be responsible for the illnesses there - particularly among people who vaped cannabis products and fell ill there.

All of them used at least one cannabis-containing vaping product before they became ill, and all reported recent use of various vaping products.

FDA experts told the state officials that the oil, which has been associated with similar symptoms of severe lung infection was found in 10 of the 18 samples of cannabis e-cig liquids they tested.

The acetate is the oil derived from vitamin E and is typically used for skin treatments and is not known to be harmful when ingested.

The same chemical was also found in almost all cannabis samples from NY patients who were sickened, a state health department spokeswoman told the Post.

The fact that the person who died in OR appears to have legally purchased the product has reinvigorated a theory that the products making people sick are counterfeit, jury-rigged OR tampered with by consumers OR retailers mixing their own vaping liquids.

Vaping culture has spread quickly in Bahrain with vape shops mushrooming across the kingdom, ensuring easy access to all users.

Health Canada reissued a statement on Thursday advising Canadians who use vape products to be on the alert for symptoms of illness, and to get medical attention immediately if they feel concerned about their health.
