"Deeply concerned" says UNHRC on Kashmir, raises Assam issue as well

UN Human Rights Council flags Kashmir lockdown, NRC impact

During the meeting with the secretary-general, Ambassador Lodhi said India's illegal annexation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir had triggered multiple crises - a political and human rights crisis in Kashmir, a crisis with Pakistan, as a party to the dispute, and a humanitarian crisis which is growing as the lockdown there entered the 36th day with no end in sight.

United Nations human rights chief Michelle Bachelet on Monday expressed "deep concern" over the impact of restrictions in Kashmir, and asked India to ease the current lockdowns to ensure people's access to basic services.

Foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi outlined Pakistan's strong position while speaking at the UNHRC session in Geneva against the backdrop of tensions with India over the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status on August 5.

In July too, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) report, its second on Kashmir in 13 months which was also released under Bachelet's oversight, had highlighted "serious human rights violations and patterns of impunity in Jammu and Kashmir".

"I get along with both countries very well", Trump said while responding to a question on his assessment of the situation between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be heading the delegation and he tweeted that Islamabad would "speak definitively" at the 42nd session on the alleged "atrocities in Kashmir". India-held Kashmir has seen a decades-old movement against the Indian occupation with tens of thousands, mostly civilians, killed.

USA lawmaker Adam Smith highlighted "legitimate concerns regarding the communication blackouts, increased militarisation and enforcement of curfews" in occupied Kashmir.

Samsung's 6000mAh 'monster' phone gets an official launch date
The three-camera setup on the back includes a main 48-megapixel (MP) camera, a 5MP depth camera, and an 8MP wide lens. The phone will become available in Korea starting on September 4, and will expand to more markets soon after that.

"What has happened in occupied Jammu and Kashmir is certainly a flashpoint", Ambassador Lodhi said, while noting that the secretary-general and other United Nations officials have made statements in the wake of the ongoing crisis that called for a settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

Qureshi further alleged that India could resort to a "false flag operation", the "bogey of terrorism" or "even attack Pakistan" to divert worldwide attention from the situation in Kashmir.

"India and Pakistan are having a conflict over Kashmir as you know".

Chu, who is the first Chinese-American to make it to US Congress, took to Twitter to urge India to lift curbs on communication in the occupied valley and "provide the citizens of [occupied] Jammu and Kashmir with the same rights as other citizens of India".

"I appeal to the government to ensure due process during the appeals process, prevent deportation or detention, and ensure people are protected from statelessness".

With many countries terming Kashmir issue as bilateral, it is indeed a setback for Pakistan and looks like Pakistan has been cornered by the global community on the issue.
