Tehran: Iranian Tanker Unloaded Cargo on Mediterranean Coast

An Iranian tanker at the center of a dispute between Tehran and Western powers has delivered its cargo after docking somewhere on the Mediterranean coast, Iran's state news agency IRNA quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying.

In July, Iran seized a British oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz for alleged marine violations, two weeks after British forces detained an Iranian tanker near Gibraltar accused of taking oil to Syria in violation of European Union sanctions.

A report by The Financial Times revealed Wednesday that four days before the US imposed sanctions on the tanker, the vessel's Indian captain received an unusual email from US Special Representative on Iran Brian Hook.

According to the Sun, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said: 'We are preparing for the release of the detained British tanker and legal proceedings are nearing completion'.

In response to a question about the latest developments surrounding a British oil tanker seized in the Persian Gulf in July for violating global maritime law, Mousavi said it is expected to be freed in the coming days.

Authorities in Gibraltar released the vessel on 15 August after receiving assurances from Iran that it would not discharge its cargo in Syria.

The US has been trying to seize the vessel as part of its sanctions targeting the Iranian energy industry.

US Vice-President Mike Pence meets Irish president and PM
The Vice President and his family will be staying at the Trump Resort in Doonbeg for the duration of their stay. Amnesty spokesperson Kieran Clifford said the event will show the vice president what Irish values mean.

Earlier in July, authorities in the British territory of Gibraltar seized an Iranian tanker. After the captain gave no positive response, he and the ship were put under United States sanctions.

Iranian and Syrian officials have not acknowledged the vessel's presence near Syria.

"We do of course express the view that timely and active cooperation is very important, and also the fact that time is very important", said Feruta after a meeting with the head of Iran's nuclear programme, Ali Akbar Salehi, in Tehran.

U.S. prosecutors in federal court allege the Adrian Darya's owner is Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which answers only to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The tanker was seized on charges of transporting oil to Syria, thus violating global sanctions.

Meanwhile Saturday, the US Transportation Department's Maritime Administration issued a new warning to shippers about a potential threat off the coast of Yemen in the southern Red Sea.

A spokesman for the US Navy's Bahrain-based 5th Fleet, Commander Joshua Frey said the Navy remained ready to maintain the safety of shippers in the region.
