The U.S. military is moving to take several dozen ISIS fighters into custody from Kurdish prisons in northeast Syria, and already holds two British fighters involved in the murder of freelance journalist James Foley and other Western hostages of the terror group, according to U.S. officials.

"I can confirm that we've taken custody of two high-value ISIS individuals from the SDF", the defense official said on condition of anonymity, referring to the Islamic State group and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces that held the captured jihadists.

The pair, who were raised in the United Kingdom but have since been stripped of their British citizenship, are among thousands of IS fighters, including others from Britain, who have been held in camps in the region.

Alexanda Kotey, 35, and El Shafee Elsheikh, 31, have been moved to an undisclosed secure location, said president Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump stated earlier Wednesday that the US had transferred some Islamic State prisoners amid fears they may escape custody as Turkish troops invade northeastern Syria.

Turkey has launched an assault on the Syrian Kurdish forces - with which the U.S. partnered to combat the Islamic State group - sparking fears that the offensive could lead to captured fighters they held escaping and reconstituting the group.

"We are taking some of the most unsafe ISIS fighters out and we're putting them in different locations where it's secure", Trump said at the White House.

"They have been moved out of Syria and are in a secure location".

Mortar shells hit Turkish border town, no casualties
Brett McGurk, who was Trump's special envoy for the fight against ISIS, also decried the decision in an interview with NPR . The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human rights reported that people had begun fleeing the border town of Tal Abyad.

ISIS executioner Jihadi John was killed previously. "The treatment had to be harsh to keep them in the state of mind" of compliance. However they are saying they had been amongst a really small group of ISIS members who knew Emwazi's true identification, first reported in The Washington Submit in early 2015. "The prisoners had to be kept always under pressure".

The US must quickly repatriate them to their home countries or to the United States to stand trial in the federal criminal justice system, she said. Trump said before the assault began that Turkey would be responsible for all IS fighters in the area, though it wasn't clear how that would be implemented.

Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh are among several dozen Isis terrorists who will be seized by the USA military.

Toby Cadman, a British lawyer representing Diane Foley, stated he additionally worries that transferring the prisoners round may create new alternatives for the defendants' households to delay a prosecution.

"The last thing anyone wants is for the process to be. fudged in order to get them before a court that they can then challenge", he said.
