Donald Trump photographed with Giuliani associate arrested for foreign influence scheme

This Facebook screen shot provided by The Campaign Legal Center shows from left Donald Trump Jr. Tommy Hicks Jr. Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman posted

The congressman isn't identified by name in court papers.

The subpoenas request Parnas and Fruman provide documents and communications related to efforts to persuade the Ukrainians to investigate Burisma, the energy company that hired Hunter Biden, as well as the ouster of US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, which Parnas and Fruman had pushed for.

The indictment was made public Thursday following the arrest of two Florida businessmen with ties to Giuliani.

As Law&Crime previously reported, several former federal prosecutors immediately pounced on the news of Parnas' and Fruman's arrest-noting that his clients being scooped up by law enforcement did not bode well for Giuliani's own legal fate.

Giuliani called me at 6:22 p.m. last night-around the same time that two of his associates, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, were arrested at Dulles Airport while waiting to board an global flight with one-way tickets.

Before that, though, Parnas and Fruman appeared to be enjoying the fruits of their efforts, mingling with powerful politicians and fostering at least the impression they were close to the President.

An attorney for Parnas and Fruman, Kevin Downing, declined to comment on the indictment.

Prosecutors say the two men conspired to funnel money from a Russian donor into USA elections.

Pressed whether he is concerned Giuliani himself could be indicted, Trump said, "Well I hope not, again, I don't know how he knows these people". I have called him more than 100 times over the past year, and this is the first time that has ever happened.

American diplomat's wife flees United Kingdom after fatal auto crash
Under the 1961 Vienna Convention , diplomats and their family members are typically immune from prosecution in their host country. The British Government has been urging officials in the USA to facilitate the return of the suspect, Anne Sacoolas.

Parnas and Fruman had been called to testify this week.

The two men had been planning to fly to Vienna on Wednesday night, according to a source familiar with the matter. Sessions added that he's been friends with Giuliani for 30 years but doesn't know about his business or legal activities in Ukraine.

The pair have been associated with US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani. "There was no request in that meeting and I took no action", Sessions said. 'I don't know them. He is businessman and a longtime associate of Parnas.

Hicks has since left the super PAC to become Republican National Committee co-chairman, creating a vacancy filled by Linda McMahon, who stepped down as Trump's Small Business Administration head in spring 2019 to join the group.

[Parnas and Fruman] were helping President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani set up meetings with high level Ukrainian officials, according to documents obtained by the State Department inspector general.

Fruman attended a fundraiser for Trump's re-election campaign at the President's Mar-a-Lago estate in March 2018, an event where tickets began at $2,700 and went all the way to $50,000. In a statement, a spokesperson for America First Action noted that a complaint was filed with the FEC in July 2018 over this contribution, as well as separate litigation in Florida. A super PAC can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money in support of a candidate but isn't allowed to directly coordinate with the official campaign. The money wasn't enough to help Sessions past year. Giuliani told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday the men were heading to Vienna and that he wasn't scheduled to meet the two until they returned to Washington - meaning, by Giuliani's account, the three of them would've been in the same city at the same time but would not be seeing one another.

In the texts, Taylor repeatedly questioned the decision to stall hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine as a potential quid pro quo, calling it "crazy".

Another U.S. official, who worked for her in Kyiv and discussed a domestic political issue only on the condition of anonymity and without authorization, could "not recall any occasion on which she spoke ill of this or any other president or politician". They sought to influence politicians on behalf of the Ukrainian government, according to the indictment.

"The president says, 'Guys, give Rex your pitch, '" a source told the Washington Post.
