Trump rally roils liberal bastion of Minneapolis

Most cities never bother to send a bill assuming politicians won't pay. Duluth ate $69,000 in police costs for a Trump rally last year

The city gave AEG the estimated associated costs for security and other issues and the company was trying to pass the costs onto the campaign, the campaign said, calling it a violation of the contract it signed with AEG.

President Trump thanks the Minneapolis Police Federation for their support, while criticizing the city's mayor. Mass presidential events in Minneapolis have also been much cheaper in the past.

It's created logistical and cost concerns for Minneapolis officials, who are asking for help from state, local and federal law enforcement agencies and expecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in extra costs for security.

At a 2009 rally at the Target Center for then-President Barack Obama, security costs totaled around $20,000, according to a Pioneer Press report at the time.

Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder said police are keeping an eye on the actions of outside groups and are aware of a "myriad of different external factors" they could confront. "We look forward to seeing everyone Thursday night".

The rally, Trump's first since the House moved toward impeachment over his handling of a phone call with Ukraine's president, is in a state Trump almost won in 2016 and has talked frequently of capturing in 2020.

However, the police union assured that this measure will not stop sympathizers of the Republican candidate inside the body from showing their support and told "Fox & Friends" that they have sent red T-shirts that read, "Cops for Trump" that have already run out. You claim it is somehow the Campaign's responsibility to "coordinate" these additional services and expenses, "including arrangements for payment to be made directly by [the Campaign] to the City, in advance of" the rally.

Trump has tweeted saying that the lightweight Mayor is hurting the police and other handsome supporters.

"Someone please tell the Radical Left Mayor of Minneapolis that he can't price out Free Speech". Dump Frey and Omar! And it is surprising to me how many women voters did vote for Trump. Want to bring some home.

The Trump campaign announced on Twitter that, after threats of a legal battle, the Target Center was no longer a point of contention: "The arena in Minneapolis is fully approved.President Trump's Keep America Great rally will go on as scheduled", campaign manager Brad Parscale wrote to supporters. I am with you 100%!'

Trump slammed Frey in a tweet Tuesday morning, calling him a "lightweight".

"This last-minute squeeze seems to be nothing but a pretextual political effort with serious First Amendment ramifications", the letter added.

President Trump heads to Minnesota Thursday for a campaign rally in a state that he narrowly lost in 2016 but hopes to win in 2020.
